Paki Lions, competing in the second final this season, were eager to bring home one trophy.
They were put in to bat by Molls who won the toss and got off to a good start thanks to Saifullah Khan and Captain, Kamran Hanif.
They were 30 runs up when Kamran was dismissed for 9 in the sixth over. Saifullah was the second to fall on 39, with the score at 63 and Nathaniel Benjamin was dismissed for a duck, three runs later. Paki Lions continued to put together mini partnerships as Usman Zafar, Zabiullah Khan, Farhan Farooq and Jonathan Benjamin all got into double figures before being dismissed. In the 25th over, Paki Lions found themselves at 143/7, with still five overs left to push. They lost more quick wickets though and were dismissed for 159 in the 29th over.
Willem Husselman was the pick of the Molls bowlers, taking 2/18 from his 5 overs. Wilfred Bierbaum and Stephen Joubert also took two wickets apiece for their team. Needing over 5 runs an over to claim victory, Molls would be forgiven for thinking it was an easy victory. However, Paki Lions wanted to prove that they were kings of the cricket jungle and came out fighting. They struck early, leaving Molls at 11-2 in the third over. Willem Husselman and Preston Caldecott then put on a 23 run partnership before Willem was dismissed and Preston and Bjorn Talanda added another 27 runs before Preston was bowled.
At 61-4 in 11 overs, Molls were still well on their way to victory. One run later though, things turned again as Wilfred was bowled by Ashfaq Mohammed for a duck. Bjorn and Corne Coetzee then steadied the ship for a bit before Bjorn fell for 19 with the score on 85. Three quick wickets then fell, leaving Molls floundering on 99-9 with 10 overs still to go.
Needing 60 runs to win with one wicket in hand was always going to be a tough ask. Stephen and Zandre Coetzer tried in vain and put on 16 runs before Zandre was dismissed, giving Paki Lions the hard fought win.
