Cricket coaches have an eye on the ball
The coaches attention was focused on the fundamentals of cricket coaching and the benefits of the sport.
A three-day KFC Mini Cricket coaching clinic for children and cricket coaches, took place at Suryaville Primary School from May 10 to 12.
The first day of the clinic included physical activities, conducted by professional KwaZulu-Natal Inland (Pietermaritzburg) cricket players, in which 60 children participated.
The following day, around 18 coaches, which included teachers from schools in Newcastle, engaged in a physical and theoretical training session supervised by coordinators and managers from the KZN Inland Cricket Union and professional players.
The coaches attention was focused on the fundamentals of cricket coaching and the benefits of the sport.
“Mini Cricket is a fun way for children to learn how to play the game, while also acquiring social skills and sportsmanship in the process,” says Mini Cricket coach, Rishi Nanan.
Nanan believed learning to play cricket at an early age helped children to become more responsible, think analytically and instilled a sense of discipline in their lives.
“The aim is to have fun while playing the game,” he concluded.
