Street soccer comes to Estcourt

10 teams from Estcourt, Mooi River and Ladysmith met at Lambert Park to be part of this 'first' for Estcourt

A different type of soccer tournament was held on July 8… a Street Soccer Tournament. 10 teams from Estcourt, Mooi River and Ladysmith met at Lambert Park to be part of this ‘first’ for Estcourt.

The tournament was organised by Manqoba Mchunu, who explained that street soccer is simpler than ‘normal’ soccer matches.

“Firstly, it is not played on a field, there are four players per team, and the matches are 24 minutes long,” he explained.

At Saturday’s tournament, it was evident that these fast-paced and highly-competitive matches were thoroughly enjoyed by all who participated.

The final was played between 303 FC from Mshayazafe and Ajax from Colita. After an intense 24 minutes, Ajax emerged victorious with a final score of 2-1.

“The players really enjoyed the tournament and have even requested that I host another event. We just need sponsors, but otherwise it was a great tournament,” concluded Mchunu.
