Throwing down the gauntlet for the biggest Christmas Market ever
Previously, these markets were held twice a year at the Glencoe Spar Centre, but these got slightly mangled in the post as it were but now, a dynamic new team is in charge.
Negativity is a malaise that is spreading quicker than an Endumeni veld fire in an August wind. The petrol price is now so expensive that the guys in Glencoe are pushing their cars to the drankwinkel.
Rates have doubled for businesses in Endumeni and despite promises, the Council is not doing anything about it – like the much-awaited security cameras. It appears as if the authorities are quite happy to let Dannhauser beat them to the punch when it comes to CCTV in the town. Imagine if we did have cameras?
Then we would know just who flattened the fence at the Cenotaph last week…
But – yes – everyone is down. Land grabs. Inflation. Retrenchments. Petrol. Job cuts. No Council meetings. The list is about an endless as a five-day cricket game in the rain. But, fear not, there is a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. It may be early but plans are already in place for the biggest and bumpiest Christmas market ever in Glencoe.

Glencoe Spar market another cracker
Youth day celebrated in grand style at Glencoe Market Day …
Glencoe Spar Centre market place was a real crafty idea
“Hopes are high that we will also get support for a 5km and 10km Christmas Walk from Glencoe Spar through town on December 15. The vision is to deck all participants out in Christmas hats to ensure that the Christmas spirit is really brought home,” said Louis. The Market Day and Christmas Run on Saturday a week before Christmas will give a chance for crafters to sell their goods and unique Christmas gifts and bring the community together in a gesture of goodwill.
Father Christmas will also be there in his suit and there will be presents for underprivileged children. The local No Rules Bikers are also expected to get involved and support the day with a morning bike run from Dundee Spar to Glencoe Spar where all the action will take place.
Parents wanting to treat their little one to a Christmas surprise will be able to drop off their wrapped and labelled gift at Glencoe Spar by December 14. This gift will be presented to the child by Father Christmas the following day. Photos will be taken and will be available to those wanting a copy for a nominal fee.
“There will also be music and lots of fun. Let’s shake off all the negative thoughts of 2018 and ensure that the true meaning of Christmas is marked in the right spirit. Please join us at Glencoe Spar Centre on December 15 from early until late afternoon,” enthused Assie. “Hopefully we will attract crafter’s and shoppers from out of town to make sure Glencoe is indeed the centre of the universe this Christmas.
