Animal waste spills across Biggar Street North, Glencoe, sparking outrage

Residents have raised health concerns after animal remains, blood and other waste spilled from a truck in Glencoe.

Residents were left disgusted after animal remains, including intestines, blood and other waste, spilled from a truck onto Biggar Street North this afternoon.

Some residents claim the incident is a regular occurrence, raising concerns about the potential health risks and the lack of action to prevent it.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said a group of pedestrians walking alongside the road were splashed with blood when the truck transporting the meat and waste drove over a speed bump.

Other residents said the waste had attracted flies and roaming dogs, adding to concerns about hygiene and public health.

“It’s disgusting and a health hazard. Where are the authorities?” asked a business owner who lives in the area.

It is unclear whether the waste was being transported to or from a abattoir, or who is responsible for ensuring that the road is cleaned.

The Endumeni Municipality and relevant health authorities have been approached for comment. Their responses will be published when received.
