Rapist sentenced to 15 years imprisonment

The Fezile Dabi District Commissioner, Major General Moses Makubo, condemned such behaviour, especially during women's month and applauded all the members involved for ensuring that such perpetrators end up behind bars, and justice is served.

On Monday, 31 July,  the Parys Regional Court sentenced 35-year-old David Tshabalala to 15 years imprisonment after being found guilty on a charge of rape.
This follows an incident on 25 March at about 20:00, when the 16-year-old victim left her aunt’s house in Schonkenville with two of her friends for a sleepover in Mbeki section, Tumahole.
On their way to Mbeki section, a fight ensued between the friends and the victim decided to walk back home after she picked up her clothes at a friend’s house. On her way back, she met Tshabalala, who was not known to her, and who then allegedly forced her to walk with him, sgt. Josephine Rani, SAPS communication officer for the Fezile Dabi district said.
While they were walking in the Tambo section, he pulled her into an open veld, where he started to strangle and rape her. He continued to threaten her, saying that if she made any form of noise, he would kill her. She cooperated in order to save her life. He then took her to his home, where he continued to rape her, says sgt Rani.
On Saturday morning 26 March at about 06:00, he ordered the victim to freshen up and leave. He told her to come back during the day to pick up R800 cash in order for her not to tell anyone about what had happened.
The victim went home and informed her family about the ordeal and they then accompanied her to Tumahole SAPS to open a case of rape as he is a minor, sgt. Rani concluded.
