MamaMagic Baby Expo showcases baby essentials
NORTH RIDING – The Ticketpro Dome was filled with exhibitors who showcased baby and children's products.
Parents and expectant parents from all over attended South Africa’s largest pregnancy and parenting showcase: the MamaMagic Baby Expo.
The expo takes place at Ticketpro Dome from 12–15 May, where various exhibitors showcase their products, services and give informative talks. The event covers all aspects relating to parenting babies and toddlers from exhibitors and specialists.
This year Huggies hosts various specialists who will give free informative talks and advise at their Huggies Expert’s lounge. International certified child birth educator Lynn Bluff’s topic was Skin to Skin for Mom and Baby at Birth.
“I believe that when a baby is born, the mother should put the baby on their chest and leave them there. The baby will find the mother’s breast to feed on. This process also improves the bonding, brain development and builds the baby’s immune system. Ideally a baby should be skin to skin on a mother’s chest for two to three months,” explained Bluff.
Exhibitor Denet Bilgnaut displayed fabric made from 100 percent wool, which is processed at a farm. “I got the idea to make fabric out of sheep skin because I did not want to waste the wool from lambs. In summer it keeps babies cool and in winter warm,” said Bilgnaut.
There are various fun activities at the expo to keep children busy while parents do their shopping. Both play areas provide children with mental and physical stimulation for children to explore freely.
Mother Janette Verster who brought her baby along to the expo said that she is looking for educational toys for her baby. She added that she finds it exciting to explore the rest of the expo.
