Pre-school blooms with Twitter
Twitter is a social networking service that allows users to read, re-tweet and reply to messages and to interact with other users from across the world.
After a site visit to a dusty nursery school, member of Provincial Legislature Jack Bloom tweeted, “Nursery in Kya Sand needs tables and chairs for the children to work and play on.”
Bloom was pleasantly surprised when a member of the public, Richard Michelson, replied and said he would be able to help out. “He lives in Cape Town and after a couple of weeks the bright colourful chairs and tables arrived and the children’s spirits immediately lifted.”
Bloom and Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane handed over five tables and 30 chairs to the Vukuzenzele Nursery School. Mafokwane said, “Nursery schools like these help to keep children off the streets and it’s vital to look after the future generation. But they need donations to keep head above water in these tough times.” Teacher Margaret Moemise said, “I am thankful for the support and the donation. The nursery will not strive without the support of the community.” Moemise added that if anyone wants to donate anything for the nursery school they can contact her.
