A Fourways animal rescue centre, Pets Empowerment in Townships (Pets), received a call on 21 August alerting them to a dog lying in a puddle of mud, sewage and water in an open veld.
According to Nicole Badenhorst of the organisation, the dog – now known as Pooh Bear – was rescued from an open veld in Orange Farm.
She said a Pets Empowerment in Townships supporter, Washington Hloni, alerted them after he heard the dog’s cries for help.
“Hlole pulled him out and stayed with him the entire time,” said Badenhorst.
Staff from the animal rescue centre rushed the dog to their vet for urgent medical attention.
“He is showing signs of improvement and is able to lift his head, but since there is no visible trauma it’s uncertain what’s wrong with him”, said Badenhorst.
She said the vet was running various tests. “Thank you Hloni for being his guardian angel last night,” she said.
