River flooding worse every season

Heavy rains result in damaged property, golf club takes responsibility.

Following a huge storm on 28 November, the Klein Jukskei river flooded the Randpark Golf Club’s Firethorn Course as well as nearby houses.

The flooding was severe and caused much damage.

”We have lived here for 13 years and have seen the river flood every rainy season, it seems to get worse every season. My husband and I are glad the golf club is planning on reconstructing the area next year to prevent the water from flooding the river,” resident Sally Kelly said.

Public relations officer and marketing manager at the Randpark Golf Course Tilani Edwards explained that due to the river overflowing, a lot of residents’ yards have been damaged and the club has taken on the responsibility to address the escalating problem.

”The club is doing a rehabilitation project in 2014 to not only restore the ruined properties, but to also prevent this from happening again. This will require restructuring and construction work that will cost R6 million.”
