Kallyn Merckel (11) of Sacred Heart College was runner-up for the learner of the year award at Edublox Reading and Learning Clinic.
Merckel is in Grade 6 and attends lessons at the clinic.
He received a certificate and R1 000 for his hard work for progressing from a remedial school to the college, and for passing Grade 5.
The annual competition involved 20 Edublox clinics in South Africa and Namibia.
Monique van Heerden, educational practitioner at Edublox Randburg, said the clinic was “very proud of their star pupil and knows that there will be more stories of success to share in the next competition at the end of the year”.
