Oratilwe [ to be loved ], a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) which aims is to help others to push their boundaries, invited Blue Eagle High School pupils to join them for a day of empowerment on 29 May.
This project was established to assist young people to acquire the knowledge they need to succeed.
University of Johannesburg student, Tlhologelo Thoka and founder of Oratilwe, was able to host the event with the help of a few friends.
“I invited friends who are in different careers, some who are still studying and others who are already working in their preferred fields. They shared their stories with the Grade 11 pupils, gave them advice, in the hope of these pupils following their dreams,” said Thoka and added that she wanted to host a seminar with a variety of careers for the pupils to be inspired by.
A seminar for the Grade 11 boys at the Blue Eagle High School was held in the hall and one for the girls at the multi-purpose centre. “During the month of May boys are usually left out of Take a girl child to work events. I felt that the pupils equally deserved to be empowered on their career choices, ” Thoka explained.
Blue Eagle High School pupil Thabiso Mogotlane said, “I learned a lot about different careers at the seminar. I feel motivated now and feel sure of the two career choices I am interested in, which is journalism and law. This has given me the strength I needed to keep doing well at school.”
Maano Ramadwa, Blue Eagle High School principal said, he was very happy for his pupils and with the organisation for hosting the school. “These Grade 11s have so much potential. The speakers inspired them and I am certain it will help them develop and know how to further their studies,” stated Ramadwa.
