North Riding school and church help the Zandspruit community

NORTH RIDING - Local school and local church give back to the community of Zandspruit.

North Riding Secondary School in partnership with Northpoint City Church, is helping Impophomo Rushing Waters socio-economic Development give back to the community.

Church youth leader Mitchell Walker said,“We have a long-standing relationship with an organisation which seeks to empower and aid the community of Zandspruit. Together with a company called Umzisi and the school, we started a drive for collecting clothes and food for the underprivileged community of Zandsrpuit.”

The pupil’s part of the outreach programme offered cups of hot chocolate to other pupils in exchange for an item of clothing or an item of non-perishable food for the community of Zandspruit.

“On 5 June we went to the school to collect food and clothes items. The church will sort the items and distribute them during the outreach and community empowerment day on 21 June. We welcome anyone to bring any winter clothes to donate and drop them off at our church,” explained Walker.

The church will also erect soccer goal posts for the community so that they have a proper soccer field.

“On the day, we will be giving the donated items to the Zandspruit Community Church which will then distribute them to the community. We want the youth to be a part of this, because it will make them feel like a part of the community,” stated Walker.

Catherine de Wet, teacher at North Riding Secondary School and outreach programme facilitator said, “The school principal thought it would be a g

reat idea to have an outreach programme. Myself and another teacher Robyn Buttemer, help the pupils to run it.”

Impophomo Rushing Waters co-ordinator Hennie Swanepoel was very impressed by the pupils who willingly helped the organisation in order to help those in need.
