Deborah Sieff, patient liason officer says we want to make the children relax and not concentrate on their sicknesses.

“Bokkie, the Mascot helps children. Springboks are playing this weekend it is nice to make them smile and not feel isolated,” explains Sieff.

Springbok Rugby team Mascot “Bokkie”, paid a well-timed and much anticipated visit to Netcare Olivedale Hospital’s paediatric ward ahead of test match against the All Blacks at Ellis Park today (4 October).

Young patients were really taken with the animated superhero and it was abundantly clear that the parents and hospital staff enjoyed the visit as much as the young fans.

When a child is hospitalised it can be stressful for all concerned. Bokkie’s visit certainly brought a sparkle to the lives of the young patients, their parents and the hospital staff.
