Meet a survivor

BLOUBOSRAND – Meet Kerryn Marcus, a true heroine and cancer survivor.

Kerryn Marcus, a resident of Bloubosrand, is a cancer survivor.

Marcus (a pre-school teacher) was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013. She had been told she had stage 4 which is an incredibly aggressive stage. When Marcus found out, she had a single mastectomy performed, as well as radiation. In the second week of March this year the doctors said she was officially in remission.

Marcus was a floor manager at the Northgate Cancer Shavathon on 28 February and remarked, “There were some lovely families that came through in support of family members that are courageously fighting the fight or that have recently lost their fight and had gained their Angel Wings. ”

When speaking about her cancer, she explained that she felt little pain and no sickness. “I only felt a small bump in my breast which quickly grew, it was only sore when I touched it.”

Marcus said, “It’s quite an emotional time and you need to have the right mindset to know what you can accomplish.” She further added, “You have to be positive when you have days that you don’t want to get out of bed.”

Marcus expressed the immense need for family during your treatment.

“We must also remember how must strain the family is under. From forcing me to eat or even walk a few steps, their support was priceless. Without my sister and husband I would not have made it this far,” said Marcus.
