GALLERY: Where’s Robin Hood when you need him?

Residents in Robindale have been without power for 60 hours, and counting, thanks to attempted cable theft and ineptitude of City Power.

On the Bram Fischer service road between Boundary and Robin Hood roads in Robindale, a row of free-standing homes have been without power since 3am on 27 June.

Resident Daxa Desai said the cables had been cut and have just been left hanging. It appears the thieves were interrupted.

“Besides the massive inconvenience and risks posed to the residents’ safety, now that all our security systems have been compromised, I am deeply concerned about the safety aspect posed by the live cables, especially the one that is hanging low enough for a child to reach,” she said.

Desai’s daughter Khyati supplied screenshots of multiple calls she had logged with City Power’s web fault logging service, as well as screen shots of her communication with City Power via Twitter.

Most disturbing is the fact that City Power sent a response saying that the fault had been “resolved” when current photographs provide evidence to the contrary.

City Power spokesperson, Sydney Mphahlele was not immediately available for comment, but questions were sent to him, and comment is awaited.
