Support the Salvation Army’s annual fête

LINDEN – The annual fundraising fête will be held at the Salvation Army Firlands Children's Home on 29 August.

Salvation Army’s Firlands Children’s Home is calling on residents to come and support its annual fête event.

The Annual Fundraising Fête will be held on 29 August, on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Eleventh Street from 8 am–3pm.

This fundraising event is aimed at helping to support 60 children who are in the care of this children’s home.

The home attempts to provide a normal “family type” environment in which the kids can develop and attain their full potential.

The children are mixed gender and housed in hostels with “house mothers and/or fathers”.

Funds raised are utilised for the maintenance of the facilities of the home and to provide for the children’s extra-mural activities and entertainment.

The 2015 fête will feature a book sale, a wonderful selection of stalls selling jewellery, bric-à-brac, furniture, appliances, clothing, collectables, sports goods, toys, and a garden and nursery stall.

Breakfast will be served and a tea garden is available.

Other food stalls will serve curry and rice, pannekoek, boerewors rolls, vetkoek, cakes, sweets and ice-cream throughout the day.

Entertainment will be provided by a DJ, the Firlands dancers and various other artists.

Altogether, it promises to be a day of fun and laughter for the whole family, while helping to raise much-needed funds for the home.

The public are requested to not only support the fête on the day, but to also donate cash or ingredients or any unwanted goods for the various stalls.
