Update: Police on the lookout for shooting suspects

LINDEN – Police are on the lookout for two suspects after a shooting in Linden.

Police are on the lookout for two suspects on the run for attempted murder after a shooting incident that took place in Linden on 5 December.

Communications officer for the Linden SAPS Constable Carol Mulamu said that it was alleged that the homeowner heard unusual sounds around 3.30pm and went outside to investigate. “Upon going outside the homeowner saw two males trying to derail his gate. He then tried to stop them and the suspects shot at him and he retaliated [by firing back at them],” Const Mulamu said.

She explained that the suspects failed to enter the premises and fled the scene in a grey VW Polo to an unknown destination. “No one was injured and no arrests have been made as yet,” Const Mulamu said. She pointed out that a case of attempted murder has been opened and police are looking for the suspects.

Neighbours said that they heard five shots being fired. Police responded to the shooting and were seen outside the house collecting statements. “I heard the first shots and peeped out the window and saw a [car] speeding off and picked up a young man and continued down the road,” a neighbour said.

The neighbour alleged that the shooters appeared to be shooting at a house across from his home and saw his neighbour shoot back at the attackers. He added that in total he saw about three men who were sitting in the car. “This is shocking as we don’t know if it was a robbery or something else,” the neighbour pointed out.

Const Mulamu urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the police on 086 001 0111 or can send an SMS to 32211.
