Bosbok Road sinks to all time low

RANDPARK RIDGE – Residents of Emerald Village want JRA to come back and fix what they started.

Resident of Emerald Village, Frances Anthony, is upset that the road outside her complex, Bosbok Road, now ends in a shallow ditch when it meets Kelly Avenue.

According to Anthony, in February a water pipe burst under the road surface and the site was under construction for two months. However, a week after Joburg Water and the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) had left the site, the road began collapsing.

Road users should be aware that the corner of Bosbok Road and Kelly Avenue is slowly collapsing.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, operations manager for marketing and communications for JRA confirmed, “The JRA team completed a 35m squared piece of asphalt which was reinstatement between 10 and 11 May, and on 13 May an inspection team observed water flowing onto Kelly Avenue at the corner of Bosbok. Water seepage occurred at the reinstatement as the roadside kerbs had not yet been installed. The team will ensure kerbing is installed and patch the affected area to ensure the condition of the road is safe for road users.”

Besides thinking the situation unprofessional, Anthony said she does not see why there is any water seepage as the road had two months to settle.

Anthony said many residents of Emerald Village had phoned to get JRA to return and fix the problem, as they believe it is slowly getting worse and is a danger to road users, but the road has not yet been attended to. “Bosbok was such a beautiful road and now it looks like a rubbish tip,” Anthony added.
