Residents reclaim their park

FONTAINEBLEAU – Residents clean the park in an effort to reclaim the public space.

Scores of residents attended the clean-up on the corner of Silver Pine Avenue and Elise Road in Fontainebleau recently.

This was an effort to keep the park clean and safer for residents. “We [residents] want to start using our open spaces and since the plants were overgrown, we took some responsibility for Silver Pine Park and trimmed trees and shrubs,” said one of the residents, Dee Crockart.

He further explained that the clean-up was also aimed at keeping the park safe. “One side of the park was just a wall of plants and we were not quite sure who or what was hiding in the overgrown bushes. Now the park is approachable.”

Residents believe that the clean-up will hopefully eradicate the problem of vagrants who were sleeping at the park. “Parents with children should be able to use this space,” he concluded.

Resident, Barbara Greig said, “We established a need to do our bit and contribute to cleaning our park.”

Ghost Squad Security Company operations manager, Douglas Benningfield, said together with the Linden Police, they kept a watchful eye on residents to ensure that they were safe while cleaning.

Among other security companies were Trojan and CSS security.
