Microchip your pet: Special at the Randburg SPCA

Randburg SPCA wants to keep pets safe and is hosting a micro-chipping festival.

A microchip for dogs and cats gives the best protection with permanent ID that can never be removed or become impossible to read.

From 10 to 26 August 2016, the Randburg SPCA will be offering microchips for pets at R110 per chip.

Dog and cat micro-chipping is a simple procedure. It’s simply an injection of a microchip into the pets, about the size of a grain of rice (12mm), beneath the surface of your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades.

The process is similar to a routine inoculation and only takes a few seconds. Your pet will not react any more than he or she would to a vaccination. No anaesthetic is required.

An Identipet microchip is a permanent pet ID. The microchip itself has no internal energy source, so it will last the life of your pet.

If your pet gets lost and is taken to an animal shelter or vet, they will scan the microchip to read its unique ID code. This is the number used by Identipet to identify the furkid and retrieve your contact information, so that you can be reunited with your pet. Identipet microchips are the only microchips used and endorsed by the National Council of SPCAs.

Walk-ins from 9am to 3pm are welcome; however, they will be staying open from 4pm to 6pm to accommodate people who work and are unable to bring their furkids during the day. All micro-chipping from 4pm until 6pm is by appointment only.

Once your furkid is micro-chipped, you and your pet will be entered into a draw for awesome prizes, to be drawn on our Fun Day on 27 August.

The little humans will be able to be put their little handprint on the walls near the kennels and animal face-painting for little humans will be available. Boerie rolls, Barista coffee, plus cold drinks will be on sale and their charity shop will be open for great bargains.
