Councillor’s Corner: Who ‘ya gonna call?
JOBURG - Read this weeks' question in Councillor's Corner
This week, Ellen Kelly from Boskruin asked:
About five weeks ago Johannesburg Water (JW) arrived to repair a water leak under my neighbour’s paved driveway. Since then, the soil – or what’s left of it – is still there and some of the neighbour’s driveway paving bricks are stacked on the side of his driveway. We have cars coming through during the weekend helping themselves to the soil. Who may I email to enquire when the work will be completed and the mess moved away?
Ward 101 councillor, Dalu Cele, answered:
JW was supposed to clean up the left-over soil and rubble so as to keep the environment or surface as they found it.
The resident should report the issue to JW and ask them to return to the site to remove the left-over rubble and soil. The resident can email their request to: customerservice@jwater.co.za or call 011 688 1699.
Kelly also asked:
In Sandra Crescent there is a piece of grassed area, which sides onto Barn Lodge, basically no man’s land. The residents in Sandra Crescent do keep their frontage tidy but this piece of ground is terribly overgrown with grass or weeds and, more recently, dumping. It isn’t a massive piece of ground but it is very unsightly. It seems such a shame as everyone else looks after their frontage and this eyesore is horrible and does cause dumping.
Cele answered:
Notwithstanding that illegal dumping is an infringement of the Waste Management bylaws of the City of Johannesburg, I would recommend that residents contact Pikitup on 0860 567 874 – Option 4 to request for the cleaning of the illegal dumping site.
Do you have a question for a ward councillor?
As a local newspaper, the Randburg Sun provides a platform for residents to learn about, understand and follow local government. As an extension of that, a weekly column called, Councillor’s Corner, will begin to appear in your newspaper. Councillor’s Corner is a platform for you, our readers, to voice your concerns or questions and for ward councillors to respond to them. Different, willing, ward councillors will respond to a question every week.
Email your burning question to: aimeed@caxton.co.za and let’s get the ball rolling.
