Not your everyday walk in the park

FAIRLAND – The second annual Fairland Dog Walk brought dog owners and their dogs out to play.

Fine weather and sociable fun prevailed over the Fairland Dog Walk 2016, which saw many locals and their best friends flock to the Fairland Gauteng Park.

The event, on 23 October, began with a walk around the park, a parade, races, prizegiving for the winners and spot prize giveaways. Pets were judged on criteria such as form, trot and attitude, and stood a chance to win prizes for the best dressed, smallest, biggest, cutest and best tricksters. The winning dogs of Mr and Miss Fairland were also announced and given special hampers.

Supporters were asked to bring donations of dog food which will go to Pets (Pet Empowerment in Townships), which works in townships to improve the lives of disadvantaged animals, either with medical care, food or finding them a new home. The dog food will go to dog owners in disadvantaged communities as an incentive to have their pets sterilised.

Local, Cassie Koopmans, organised the second Fairland Dog Walk and was very pleased with the support from the community. “It has been an amazing turnout from the community. I think it went very well and I’m pleased with the amount of dog food that has been donated. The support has been excellent and there was a very positive vibe,” Koopmans said.
