Cheer up children in hospital over Christmas

FERNDALE – Join Donna Sipman on her drive to bring some Christmas cheer to children who will be in hospital during the festive season.

As Christmas approaches, Donna Sipman encourages residents to be involved in her knitted toy drive for children who will be in hospitals during this time

“These children are often alone, frightened and a small toy gives them so much comfort and happiness, distracting them from their ailments,” Sipman said.

The Ferndale resident explained that the inspiration for the project came from her sister, Robyn Bruce, who is a doctor working with children in a hospital.

“It’s sad to hear about children who are suffering from illnesses and have no choice but to stay for prolonged periods in the hospital in order to be treated,” added Sipman. “Some of these unwell children will be in hospital during the festive season. We came up with the idea of collecting toys to give comfort to these children and make their Christmas a happier one.”

Sipman recently held a knitted blanket drive that was a roaring success and handed over 60 blankets to the trauma centre at the Randburg Police Station.

She encouraged schools, companies and individuals to knit or crochet toys. All second-hand toys are also welcome and can be handed over by 9 December so the toys can be distributed just before Christmas. “We are happy to collect and residents are welcome to contact me on donna@remax-masters.co.za or 083 299 1575,” Sipman concluded.
