Police commemorate Aids Day
FERNDALE – Women police officers from different stations in the cluster attend a women's networking event.
Randburg Police Station commander Brigadier Mitchell Jones encouraged police officials to lay the foundation for a HIV/Aids-free generation.

She was talking during a women’s networking event which took place during the commemoration of World Aids Day. The initiative by the Johannesburg West Police cluster was held at Ferndale High School.

“South Africa faces an HIV infection emergency. If we change our behaviour new infections will be eroded forever,” she said. She asked police officials to create awareness about the disease. “Let’s engage, encourage and empower one another in order to create awareness.”

She told police officials that they should start to confront issues that were often difficult and awkward . “Pledge to treat shame with reassurance. We need to honour those who stood firm and fought this battle,” she said.

Sergeant Dipuo Maphanga from the Randburg Police Station’s Social Crime Prevention Unit said their aim was to stop this pandemic. She said they ensure that members of the police force have access to medication. “Our department of police have never neglected this day,” she said.
