Sharonlea monitors recyclers

SHARONLEA – Recyclers will benefit from being visible in traffic after Sharonlea donates vests.

In its continued efforts to make Sharonlea the safest suburb in Johannesburg, the Greater Sharonlea Residents Forum (GSRF) recognised the need to monitor those who recycle in the suburb.

With the help of the TRSS security guard, Thomas Moloto, the forum has come up with an idea that will help all residents identify the person pushing the trolley as a vetted and recorded member of the community.

The GSRF had red and white reflective bibs made for the recyclers to help them become more visible in traffic and each vest is numbered. The recycler’s details have been linked to the number on their bib and photographs have been taken of each person.

In December, the bibs were handed out to the recyclers that Moloto had identified as working in the area. Along with that, the residents of Sharonlea got together to make Christmas hampers for the recyclers.

Those who received the goodies were very happy and thanked the GSRF and residents of Sharonlea along with a ‘God bless you’ for all.

Vee Dell, a member of GSRF said, “[We] would like to thank Gary Duncan, Mandy Fouche, Warren Kearns and Thomas Moloto for their tireless efforts in putting this project together.”

The forum also thanked the residents who gave money and took the time to donate to this cause. “Your dedication to keeping Sharonlea safe is much appreciated. You are all an asset to our community,” said Dell.
