South Africa’s strongest lightweight woman pulls 10-ton aircraft at Lanseria
LANSERIA – Brendali Theron put mind over matter as she pulled an Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia aircraft for 54m.
Ever wondered what would make a woman pull a 10-ton aircraft?
The plight of those who need all the help they can get, of course.
On 28 May, Brendali Theron became the first woman under 75kg to pull an aircraft and she was surrounded by her family and friends at Lanseria International Airport to watch her put mind over matter as she pulled towards one of her goals.
Theron pulled the 10-ton Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia aircraft in aid of Jumping Kids Prosthetic Fund, an organisation that provides prosthetic solutions to disadvantaged children. She said for every metre she pulled the aircraft for, businesses would donate money to the organisation. Theron more than exceeded her expectations and pulled the aircraft for 54m, passing her expected distance of 30m.
The athlete had recently placed 1st at the Arnold Classic Africa in the strongest U75kg Ladies, setting a new Africa log press record of 80kg.
A full-time graphic designer and yoga/suspension yoga instructor at Bull Ring Fitness Club, she aims to motivate people by showing them that strength is not only a physical product but a mental one too. “Strength lies in your mind, you will achieve it if you believe,” said Theron.
She added that one of her greatest supporters was her coach, Robin du Toit. “He puts in so much work and effort and technique into my diets, training and programmes. He also motivates me as an athlete just to reach so much more than I can imagine.”
Theron futures aspirations are to become a well-known fitness figure so she can inspire more people.
“Mostly I want to push my body and achieve the best version of myself that I can.”
