Progress on Zamukuhle going well

ZANDSPRUIT – Volunteers from various companies and organisations visited Zamukuhle to complete important upgrades to the facility.

Volunteers from various companies and originations have been visiting Zamukuhle Daycare and Aftercare for the past few weeks to complete important upgrades to the facility.

“There are a couple of things that have been done already thanks to the generous support from the community,” said Megan Botha from the charity Beanies for Beings.

Thanks to a local company called Independent Traders, the aftercare facility has been provided with taps, running clean water.

Botha said, “The next plan is to sort out the electricity situation… The facility at the moment has to rely on a makeshift connection, which is low-power and is a safety danger for the children.”

Pieter van Zyl from Vanz Projects went to the daycare on 23 November with his team to waterproof the facility’s roof before more rain falls.

They are also planning to make the aftercare’s long-drop safer and better functioning.

Botha suggested, “The idea is to put 200mm piping in and a proper toilet seat for the children.”

The volunteers also organised a septic tank company to come to the facility to remove the years of excess waste accumulated in its long-drop toilet.

Botha continued, “We would like to give a big word of thanks to the community who lent their services and donated goods to help Zamukuhle.

We also had a gentleman, who wishes to remain anonymous, who donated fresh vegetables and fruit to Princess two weeks ago.

There were10 families from the Randburg area who donated food hampers for the children.”

A community member also donated a trampoline, which the kids at Zamukuhle are having a lot of holiday fun playing on.

The group of volunteers has many more plans to improve Zamukuhle Daycare and Aftercare in the New Year.
