Youngsters encouraged to help fight crime in Randburg
FERNDALE – Young people are encouraged to join the Randburg police's youth desk to build to a safer South Africa.
The Randburg police are encouraging youngsters to join their youth desk in an effort to help the youth learn from each other.
Sergeant Dipuo Maphanga said that it is an initiative to get young people actively involved with the police to prevent crime and take part in awareness campaigns.
Maphanga said, “The youth desk helps the police to work with the youth to assist in crime prevention and social awareness, and helps the youth to get involved in community activities.
“The desk not only serves to help the youth have a better relationship with the police but also to help the youth learn from each other.”
Deputy Minister of Police, Bongani Mkongi said in a press release after the 2018 Youth Crime Prevention Consultative Summit on 29 June, that the establishment and functioning of youth desks and street committees in various communities will contribute to harnessing the energy of young people in a constructive way that will contribute to their personal development.
Mkongi said, “Youth desks are there to robustly engage and share ideas on the best practices to involve young people in the quest of our journey to a safer South Africa through youth participation in the fight against crime.
“The youth remains one of our greatest assets as the change-makers and innovators of our country.”
The youth desk is open to those under the age of 18 from all walks of life, and all youngsters are encouraged to join.
