Fibo Global Fitness Africa sees Randburg’s fittest hit the TicketPro Dome

NORTHGATE – Only the fittest and strongest attended the Fibo Global Fitness Africa.

Joburg’s fittest flexed their muscles at the recent Fibo Global Fitness Africa.

The TicketPro Dome played host to this inaugural event, dubbed Africa’s leading fitness and wellness lifestyle festival, from 26 to 28 October.

Thousands turned up to see the latest fitness and wellness brand products, gym equipment and specials, and even test their bodies doing intense exercises. Some of these exercises were competitive, with the winning person receiving a voucher or product.

The FitStudio hosted 60 different classes ranging from yoga to aerobics to zumba, while a FitFood Kitchen was also on hand for industry chefs to show how they prepare healthy and yummy dishes.

Another attraction was Bounce Inc, whose skilled staff used trampolines to do tricks and jumps over audience members before dunking a basketball through a hoop.

Even the children’s area made use of loads of space and had, albeit softer and safer, gym equipment to play with.

Nick Bordalo, Dulay de Klerk and Chanel Rodrigues attend the Fibo Global Fitness Africa.

Overall, the festival had everything a health or fitness fanatic could ask for.

“There was definitely a need for this [event] in Joburg,” said Llewellyn du Plessis, general manager of travel, tourism and sports at Reed Exhibitions.

“For the launch of an event to have over 100 exhibitions and visitors streaming in, shows that the fitness industry is hungry for this kind of event.”

Kevin Lien is one of the best lifters during a workout race.

He added that the event was one for the family as everyone had something that would interest them.

“We are reaching three year olds to grandparents in their 70s, with the hotpod yoga. There are cardio exercises, body building and high-intensity exercises, there is so much.”

Du Plessis said the event would be back next year and be even bigger and better.

Kasongo Chileshe lifts weights at the festival.

Hafþór Björnsson, the strongman and actor who plays The Mountain in Game of Thrones, was scheduled to attend the festival but missed his flight, organisers said.
