Fallen electricity cable awaits repairs

MALANSHOF – After an accident on 11 January, a section of live high voltage cabling lies on the side of the road.

A large section of live electrical cabling fell along Silver Pine Avenue after a car hit a street pole in the early morning of 11 January.

The fallen cable caused a number of driveways in the affected area to be blocked.

The area has been cordoned off for the safety of pedestrians, and according to Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood, a Metro police vehicle has been placed at the scene to protect the valuable cable from being damaged whilst it awaits repair.

One side of the intersection of Philip Le Roux Avenue and Silver Pine Avenue leading towards Hans Schoeman Street has been blocked to protect the cable and possible damage to passing motor vehicles.

A Metro police vehicle has been placed at the corner of Philip Le Roux Avenue and Silver Pine Avenue to ensure the safety of pedestrians, vehicles and the cable itself after it fell across the road on 11 January.

Wood said, “When I heard about the incident, I immediately alerted City Power, who confirmed that they are aware of the problem and will be undertaking the repairs urgently. Unfortunately, City Power has quite a backlog at the moment, but I am confident that they will attend to the problem soonest.

“As the ward councillor for the area, I apologise for the delay and any inconvenience caused.”
