Toys for children after protest

HONEYDEW – The Honeydew police officers came up with a way to show children they care.

HONEYDEW – Honeydew Police Station‘s officers visited the Phaswa crèche in Zandspruit where they surprised the children with gifts.

On 21 February, 40 children received toys, colouring books and crayons. The reason for this initiative was because of all the protests happening in Zandspruit.

Sergeant Mamasedi May, the social crime coordinator said, “Every time that there is a protest, the children are impacted too. They see the police come with guns and shoot the protesters.

“The purpose of the visit was to show the children that we ‘the police officers, in blue’ are not the monsters that they see us to be.”

They visited the crèche and spent some time there to show the children that they are cared for and secure.

May wants to visit Zandspruit al least once a month to do some good in the community.
