A celebration of Argentinian culture
EMMARENTIA – The first-ever Argentinian flea market was hosted on 7 April and is set to happen on the first Sunday of the month.
The Argentinian Association of South Africa recently hosted their first-ever flea market at Emmarentia’s Marks Park sports complex.
The market is a celebration of Argentinian culture and took place on 7 April. The variety of stalls had Argentinian goods on sale, as groups of people surveyed what was on offer and various items for sale which peaked their keen interest. Argentinian music filled the crisp air while attendees and vendors enjoyed the festivities of the day.

Despite the chilly weather conditions, community members of all ages made their way to the Argentinian flea market. The market hosted a variety of stalls which included art, literature, food, bags and other craft goods. The younger attendees played soccer and somersaulted on the jumping castle erected in eyeshot of their chaperones as they dined and shopped close by.
“We want to promote the Argentinian culture and get more people to come and taste [our] delicacies,” explained Argentinian alfajores, cakes and chimichurri vendor Silvia Aravena.

Aravena is a long-time member of the Argentinian Association of South Africa. Organisers Nora Perez Forte and Oriana Pérez Casanova were happy and optimistic for more Argentinian flea markets in the future. The market can only grow from here and is hosted the first Sunday of every month.
