Passion and purpose overlap at the Randburg SPCA
NORTHRIDING – The Randburg SPCA is run by the passion and purpose of general manager Craig Rudman.

The Randburg SPCA is a place of refuge for animals that need love and a home.
With winter fast approaching, there is a range of challenges which are faced by the non-profit organisation. Craig Rudman, general manager of the SPCA, spoke to us about how his position coincided with his passion for animals and how the community could help alleviate the strain felt by the organisation.
“I have always loved animals,” Rudman said, beaming from behind his spectacles. He recalled accidentally kicking a baby rabbit on his father’s farm at 5 years old. This was the moment which defined his inclination to nurture all animals, a love that inspires his work day which begins at 6am every morning.

Rudman began working for the SPCA in 2012 and promised himself to make it his life’s work to upgrade the animal shelter. He is pleased with his progress, however, he noted that financially it had become more difficult with the emergence of inflated living expenses in South Africa which has seen donations being reduced while operating costs have increased.
The organisation welcomed donations of kitten and dog food and blankets. Look out for the winter warm-up collection drive which Randburg Sun will run in collaboration with the Randburg SPCA. Donations for the animals at the shelter can be brought to official drop- off locations at the Caxton head office in Craighall and the Weltervreden office during office hours.

It is clear that the management of the Randburg SPCA is fuelled by passion and purpose and the public is urged to enrich the life of an animal in need by adopting from or donating to the organisation.
