Remember these safety tips before your Winter holiday
LINDEN – Remember these safety tips before you leave on your winter holiday.
The Linden Police have issued safety tips for homeowners to be aware of during the school holidays.
Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said, “Crime always increases during a holiday period. With school holidays commencing from 14 June to 9 July, and many community members taking the time to leave for a well-deserved holiday, we have issued some safety tips for residents to be aware of when leaving their home unattended.”
Matumba issued the following safety tips:
- Residents should remember to stop all regular and planned deliveries to their homes while they are away
- Remember to unplug all TVs, microwave ovens, and cordless telephones to avoid lightning damages and fire hazards
- Arrange with a friend or neighbour to switch lights on and off at regular times and if possible, ensure this is done in conjunction with random visits to the house
- If you have an alarm system, ensure that there is a friend who knows how to deal with the alarm and the consequences of it being activated
- Do not withdraw large amounts of money to carry with you on holiday
- Avoid posting of pictures or updating on social media on public groups while on holiday
- Only inform people close to you about your holiday.
