Q and A with Acacia’s dynamic duo

NORTH RIDING – Acacia Schools has elected new leaders to finish off the year. We caught up with the pair and gained some insight into their world.

The high school leg of Acacia Schools has recently elected prefects to lead their school for the remainder of the year.

We caught up with recently elected head boy Thulani Kamangwana and head girl Tawana Phiri to get some insight into the lives of the leaders of the high school.

What is your favourite song right now?

  • Head girl: My favourite song right now is A$AP Mob’s Walk on Water, but don’t play that in front of the family.
  • Head boy: My favourite song is The Motion by Drake, recently re-released on his album, Care Package.
  • How do you feel now that you are elected as leaders of the school?
  • Head girl: I feel great.
  • Head boy: I feel good. But not that different from other kids at the school.
  • What do you like to do outside of school?
  • Head girl: I host events, promote, manage artists like SoundCloud rappers. Our most recent event was more than 1 500 people.
  • Head boy: I’m very different from her! I study and sleep when I’m home. I also play soccer with the club I joined in my estate.

What are your plans for next year?

  • Head girl: I’d like to take a gap year next year and ultimately study entertainment and psychology in Singapore, Sydney or Sweden.
  • n Head boy: I would like to work. I want to take a gap year as well and work on my biltong company.
  • What is one thing you’d want people reading this article to read, if this was the only thing they read?
  • n Head girl: To appreciate the light, you must know how to survive in the dark. You have good days and bad days but neither will last forever. Just before you give up, remind yourself what’s at the end of the struggle.
  • n Head boy: To be where I am right now I’ve learnt that nothing is impossible to a willing mind and that’s the key to success.
