Local resident puts her passion for youth to work
NORTH RIDING – The most recent project orchestrated by SYE took place on 4 July where Tebogo Rammusi and her partners made their way to Kagiso to hand over clothes collected in their winter collection drive.
Tebogo Rammusi (24) began Sebolelo Youth Empowerment (SYE) in 2018 to plough back into the community which raised her.
Based in North Riding, the founder manages her time between full-time employment and her organisation aimed at the enrichment of young people. SYE has been her labour of love, and an opportunity to play her part in the development of the next generation.SYE began as a response to the founder’s observation that the youth was in need of support to achieve their dreams. “I love people, I am loud and talkative,” expressed Rammusi when asked how her personality has informed her decision to begin this journey. Through the organisation, Rammusi was fuelled by her generosity and eagerness to help and be an agent of empowerment for young people to reach their full potential. SYE looks forward to being registered in months to come.
The most recent project orchestrated by SYE took place on 4 July where Tebogo Rammusi and her partners made their way to Kagiso to hand over clothes collected in their winter collection drive. The collection, and subsequent handover, been the organisation’s major project of the year, where Covid-19 has introduced unexpected challenges to future plans. Another notable project ran by SYE was a career expo, which provided an overview of various career paths to the youth hosted at a nearby community centre. SYE has collaborated with Pie City as well as other community stakeholders in the past to serve community members.
Rammusi was grateful to her employer for the flexibility to pursue her passion project. The founder has achieved balance through time management and flexible hours at her place of work. Sebolelo Youth Empowerment welcomes volunteers as well as partners to collaborate with on future projects. “It never costs anything to help? I have done so much or people without spending anything,” asserted Rammusi.
