Knocked-over traffic light lays on the ground for 8 months

Concerned resident Louis Wolhuter, who lives in the nearby Maison d'Olivier Retirement Village, sees the still operational eyesore on his daily walk to the shops.

A traffic light on the corner of President Fouché Drive and Windsor Way in Olivedale has been left on the side of the road for eight months after it was knocked down in February.

Concerned resident Louis Wolhuter, who lives in the nearby Maison d’Olivier Retirement Village, sees the still operational eyesore on his daily walk to the shops.

“Numerous residents in our retirement village have reported this many times over the past year and nothing has been done of yet,” said Wolhuter.

He said that the traffic light was flattened by a vehicle late at night in February and the huge 10-metre-long pole and cross arm collapsed to the ground. It has laid astride the sidewalk ever since.

He stated that the issue must be very frustrating for the hundreds of motorists that make use of the intersection on their daily commute.

“There is no right-hand turn signal as it is laying on the ground, so people do not realise that they can turn right in the sequence. It must be causing so much traffic. It is essential in allowing traffic turning right into President Fouché out of Windsor Way to proceed preferentially on a green arrow,” he said.

He added that he was also concerned with the danger the still-operational light posed to passing pedestrians as it still had electricity running through it.

“I hope something can be done about this soon,” concluded Wolhuter.
