SPCA mechanic involved in accident

NORTH RIDING – Mechanic at the Randburg SPCA has sustained minor injuries due to car accident – service vehicle damaged beyond repair.

On 2 February, an employee at the Randburg SPCA, Gift Shumba, was involved in a car accident while on his way back to the society.

Shumba sustained minor injuries and will return to work after a routine check-up. The accident occurred when another van attempted the turn right over a double white line. Shumba, who works at the SPCA as a mechanic, then swerved left to avoid the car which resulted in him sliding on the wet road surface caused by rain. This resulted in a two-car accident which involved Shumba and the other vehicle.

General manager of the Randburg SPCA Craig Rudman expressed that he had not spoken directly to Shumba since the accident, although he gave a brief summation of the events which occurred. “I’m glad he is fine – just a few cuts on his head.” Shumba has since been discharged from hospital and will return to work once he is medically cleared to do so.

The Randburg SPCA has appealed to community members to help them due to the loss of their service vehicle in the accident which was damaged beyond repair. The society can be contacted directly for further information on how to assist.
