Displaced persons removed from Randpark Ridge open area

RANDPARK RIDGE – Honeydew police, Metro police, and representatives of the Department of Social Development and Immigration Services engaged in a joint operation to move displaced persons from an open area near the corner of Beyers Naude and John Vorster Drive on 4 March.

The area near the spruit was occupied by more than 20 displaced persons who had been living in makeshift tents.

“We have received several complaints from surrounding residents and their security companies about issues concerning [displaced persons] in this area, and the operation today seeks to remove persons who are illegally occupying the area to be rehomed elsewhere,” said Lamprecht.

Makeshift tents were dismantled and goods such as bedding, clothing and various items were removed.
The operation also saw officers searching for illegal immigrants, drugs and possession of stolen goods.

Representatives of the department were on hand to take the names of the displaced persons and inform them of nearby formal shelters they could occupy upon registration.Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan wished to thank all police members and other officers for their efforts during the operation.
