The Honeydew police have put an enormous dent in the local drug trade after the confiscation of an estimated R10 000 worth of marijuana and the arrest of a suspect dealing in it.
According to Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, officers reacted to an anonymous tip-off of an alleged drug dealer in the Cosmo City area.
When the suspect was searched by reacting officers, he was discovered to be carrying a large number of small packets containing the illicit substance in a large black binliner.
“Our station’s Echo Squad would like to send out a message to all would-be drug dealers and other criminals: Honeydew is not a playground. We would like to thank all those involved for their hard work and dedication toward arresting this suspect, and their continued efforts to rid our streets of drugs and illicit alcohol,” said Muthan.
The arrested suspect will appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court soon, and the collected marijuana will be used as evidence in the suspect’s case before being destroyed in a controlled environment.
Muthan further encouraged community members to report drug dealing and establishments that may be selling liquor illegally.
“You can call your nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111. Information can also be given anonymously via MySAPS App that can be downloaded from any smartphone,” concluded Muthan.
