Community clean-up

Residents teamed up to beautify their suburb through a park clean-up in Robin Hills.

Residents teamed up to beautify their suburb through a park clean-up in Robin Hills.

The Robins Residents and Ratepayers Association (RRRA) organised the clean-up at Cherry Park recently, after it had been more than a year since a community park clean-up had been arranged.

Residents of Robin Hills and Robindale met to listen to a talk by Lorna Steward about the alien invasive plants that had become a problem in the park for a number of years.

Then they got busy removing these plants and any rubbish they found.

“This park clean-up has been the most supported and attended so far, with over 50 residents having come out to help,” said RRRA chairperson, Irvin Sammons.

“The last park clean-up that was arranged was in November 2019 so there was quite a lot of rubbish and alien invasives to remove.”

Ward 99 councillor Nicole van Dyk applauded the residents association for its work.

“I think it’s great that residents do participate in their neighbourhoods – it encourages community pride and civil duty,” she said.

“I work with the RRRA daily on service delivery items.”
