Sanitary pads for Cosmo City women
COSMO CITY – Mitchellein Tafara Bgwanya recently donated 112 sanitary pads to women and children Cosmo City.
Mitchellein Tafara Bgwanya is a 19-year-old who is mostly concerned about the next person before anything else.
She recently donated 112 sanitary pads in Cosmo City at the Sir Gabriel Centre for Excellence to approximately 35 to 40 women.
Each woman received a package that consisted of two packs of sanitary pads, sanitiser, soap and a few snacks.
“I obtained these pads through knocking on doors, asking for donations. It was not an easy thing for I was not getting a positive outcome on every door I knocked on. The rejection I was getting was my source of fuel. Once rejected I got stronger and knocked on the next door. I knew that I wanted to help therefore I made sure I delivered the goal I had set for myself,” said Bgwanya.
The Curro Meridian Cosmo City matriculant and Bloubosrand resident is currently taking part in the Miss Township South Africa pageant, which focuses on redefining beauty from what society has regarded as beautiful, and empowering women through a non-profit organisation called Little Girl Arise.
“My inspiration to donate pads in my community came from this organisation that has donated over 5 000 sanitary pads. Little Girl Arise gave me the confidence to show and express who I am as an individual,” said Bgwanya.
She said that on donation day, she found it very important to have a chat with the girl children.
“On the day we touched a topic on low self-esteem. I shared with the girls how they can improve their self-esteem. I told the girls that you are what you tell yourself, the more you tell yourself that you are capable of achieving greatness, the more you achieve whatever you do,” she continued.
She said that the girls were exceptionally happy and appreciative.
“To show their gratitude, the girls requested to dance after the presentation. We played music for them and they all danced, smiled and thanked us endlessly,” she concluded.
