Covid-19: More than 8-million vaccinations now administered
The momentum of the vaccination programme has steadily grown, with the country this week crossing the 8-million vaccines administered threshold.

South African’s today woke up with a new Health Minister, Dr Joe Phaahla who will have to hit the ground running as the country continues to face the Covid-19 pandemic, head on.
As of August 5, the total number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa stood at 2 497 655, with 13 777 new cases having been reported. Recoveries were at 2 268 085, while an additional 458 new deaths brought the total number of deaths caused by the virus to 73 873.

South Africa’s smallest, but most populated province, Gauteng is leading the way in vaccinations administered. In the past 24 hours, 11 205 people received their final dose of the vaccine, and became fully vaccinated. The Department of Health continued to urge residents to vaccinate as soon as possible to avoid serious Covid-19, or even death from the virus.
