Police warn motorists to be vigilant

FERNDALE – Motorists are warned after delivery man is hijacked and kidnapped.

Randburg police are warning motorists to be vigilant after a man was allegedly hijacked and kidnapped on October 5.

“It is alleged… the victim was on duty for deliveries when he was forced to stop by two vehicles,” explained Randburg police spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja.

“They threatened him with a firearm… He was later dropped off somewhere and items were stolen together with the vehicle.”

Maja urged motorists not to stop at any secluded areas when experiencing problems with their vehicles, or when being signalled by others to stop.

“Criminals use different ways to attract your attention and when stopping, they rob you of your belongings or vehicle. Ensure that your vehicle is in good condition when you plan to go on a journey. Arrange your trips properly and have options all the time.”
He said motorists should also have sufficient fuel for their journeys. Sometimes criminals placed distracting objects on the road such as spikes, or even staged a minor accident so they could more easily approach your car, Maja added.
He concluded that motorists should be cautious near the Malibongwe Drive and N1 on/off ramp, as well as the William Nicol Drive and N1 on/off ramp, as there have been a few incidents there.
