Planned electricity outages in Ferndale
FERNDALE – Power outages will occur for the rest of the week because of the infrastructure maintenance.
Residents should expect power outages in Ferndale from November 3 until November 6.
This is because City Power is embarking on a series of planned maintenance work because the area, block 14, has been plagued by outages due to equipment failure.
“The effects of load shedding on the network also cannot be ignored,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
“It is also difficult to attend to maintenance during load shedding due to safety concerns but the situation now is critical if we are to avoid extensive damages. We have therefore decided to conduct the maintenance because our infrastructure hasn’t been maintained for a very, very long time, so oil levels are critically low on more than 50% of our transformers.
“We believe it’s important to do maintenance regardless of Eskom’s plans, so that we reduce further damage to our equipment and reduce extended trips after Eskom has restored [power] after load shedding.
He added their customers in the area have been inconvenienced by prolonged outages after load shedding and that wasn’t right. “The truth is our network in Randburg depot needs urgent attention to reduce outages and equipment failures, and maintenance is the solution to more than half of those problems.”
The maintenance schedule is as follows, and applies between 08:00 and 16:00:
- November 3: Ferndale – Surrey Avenue, Kent Avenue.
- November 4: Ferndale – Bond street, Phillip Street, Pretoria Avenue, Hiltop Street, Noreen Street.
- November 5: Ferndale – Kent Avenue, Hill Street, Pretoria Avenue, Bram Fischer Drive.
- November 6: Ferndale – Dover Street, Oak Avenue.
