16-month-old girl stabilised after almost drowning in pool

BLAIRGOWRIE – After an advanced life support resuscitation, the patient was transported to the nearest hospital for further care.

Netcare 911 responded to a near-drowning incident around 12:36 on January 28 at a residence in Blairgowrie, Randburg.

Reports indicate that a 16-month-old girl was found unresponsive in the swimming pool. “When medics arrived on scene, they found the father doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR),” said Netcare 911’s communications officer Shawn Herbst.

“A full advanced life support resuscitation was immediately initiated by Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners, who achieved a return of spontaneous circulation,” he said.

Once stabilised, the patient was rapidly transported to hospital for further care.
