Peter Littlefield is appealing to the Randburg community to help him locate his cat, Garfield, who has been missing since June 10.
Garfield is a male, 12-year-old, ginger, neutered, and microchipped cat. Littlefield shared that when he and his wife moved into Darrenwood in 2017 and spotted the ginger cat in their garden, they asked neighbours about the cat and they said that he didn’t have an owner and so they took him in.
“At first he was anxious, even about entering our house, but soon learned to come running out of the rock garden every morning to jump on our laps when we had coffee outside,” said Littlefield.
He added Garfield had become an integral part of their lives. “We do not have children, as a result we’ve sunk all our love and attention into this one boy, our Garfield.
”We miss his yowling for attention at 2am which would force us to get up. As soon as he saw us he would meow a happy trill and follow us back to the bedroom.” He shared that they also feared for his health as he had some spinal problems leading to pain and discomfort, and at times he would limp but they were giving him chronic medication for it.
“My wife Cheryl, my brother-in-law Ashley and I are all super distraught. We have put up 19 posters in the area, and we have put over 200 flyers in people’s post boxes.”
They have visited four SPCAs – Johannesburg SPCA in Booysens, Sandton, Roodepoort and Randburg – and notified five vets and the microchip company but still no luck.
“Getting help from the community means the chance to save Garfield from this bitterly cold winter and fill the hole in our hearts.”
