Cosmo City Women’s Forum to empower young girls and women

The forum wishes to find inspirational people and empower women all over the country.

Cosmo City Women’s Forum relaunched after three years of not operating.

The organisation, which has 82 members, was filled with joy as it opened its doors.

The reopening of the group was held at Cosmo City Multipurpose Centre on April 22. This comes after it previously suspended hosting activities due to Covid-19 regulations.

“Since 2020 when the pandemic started, we had to put programmes on hold such as GBV campaigns, sanitary pads donations, cleaning for the elderly, people and food distribution to needy families,” said founding member, Lungi Tshaka.

After the epidemic was over, the community group kept its activities on hold as the majority of its members were still battling depression and anxiety.

The club, which was established in 2016, seeks to offer women a platform to share their life experiences and educate young girls about the difficulties women endure on a daily basis.

“The forum encourages women to speak about all their challenges and receive support and guidance from other women.”

Tshaka emphasised that they were also providing an update on how the forum has been operating over the previous years and launching fresh initiatives to educate women about small business development.

“We are excited to work with Small Enterprise Development Agency to educate local women on how to start their own businesses and earn a living from them,” she said.

Members of the organisation were thrilled to meet with other women and revive their group.

Forum member, Tebogo Kubu said she hopes that it grows and continues to assist other people.

“If you’re going through something and don’t talk about it, you’ll never get help, but if you’re in a group like ours and talk about what you’re going through, you’ll get help from other women,” she said with confidence.

Another member stated that she joined the club because she’s passionate about empowering young girls and women.

“I want to see a big change in my community,” said Kgomotso Lethoko, who prides herself on being part of an organisation that seeks to bring change in Cosmo City.

The forum plans to own land, plant vegetables and distribute them to disadvantaged families, as well as offering skills development programmes, sewing and knitting lessons to the community.

The relaunch was sponsored by Pick n Pay, Boxer, Roots Butchery, Plus Butchery, Cash and Carry, Romans Pizza, CG funeral services and Meat World.
