Wheels Life basketball founder gets a new wheelchair
Local radio station, Cosmo FM donates a brand-new wheelchair to a needy disabled resident.
A wheelchair basketball player will now be able to attend tournaments safely following receiving a brand-new wheelchair.
Community-based radio station Cosmo FM, in partnership with EasyPay handed over a new wheelchair to a disabled resident, Thato Makale.
This occurred on May 25 at the station’s premises at the Multipurpose Centre, with the aim of restoring his sense of worth.

It took him by surprise. “I was literally not expecting it, and I appreciate what they did for me, and I hope they can continue to help other people,” he said with a smile.
Thato, the founder of the Wheels Life Basketball team in the neighbourhood, said the new wheelchair will allow him to do things that he was unable to do with his previous one.
“The one I was using was giving me issues, and fixing it was very expensive. Now that I have a new one, I will be able to go out, see my friends, and do other things.”
Mpho Molepolle, the station’s programme manager, also known as ‘Mpho Zazah’ by listeners, said, “We decided to give him because he’s a sportsperson and we want him to go to basketball tournaments and break limits.”
Mpho told the Randburg Sun that the new wheelchair will increase his confidence and make going around easy for him.
The station will donate another three wheelchairs on July 18 during Mandela Day in order to give back to the community and celebrate Madiba’s legacy.
Mpho said that the station will visit old-age homes, special education schools, and surrounding areas in search of those in need of wheelchairs and donate them to them.
